Barkley Active, Eagles Offense Stalls
Philadelphia's running back returns to the roster as the team averages under four yards per play and faces a season-ending injury to its quarterback.

The Philadelphia Eagles average 3.9 yards per play over their last three games, a statistical floor not reached by the franchise in 27 years. This output ranks worst in the NFL, where the team is out-gained by 108.3 total yards per contest. The struggling unit prepares to host the Dallas Cowboys at Lincoln Financial Field on Monday night, October 26.
Quarterback Jalen Hurts is expected to miss the remainder of the 2026 season after doctors found blood clots in his lungs. Wide receiver DeVonta Smith is also ruled out due to a hamstring injury. These absences leave the Eagles relying on a ground game that has produced inconsistent results since the start of the campaign.
Running back Saquon Barkley is officially active for the matchup. He was listed as questionable earlier in the week with a hamstring issue. Barkley participated fully in practice on Saturday after working as a limited participant on Thursday and Friday. He will attempt to expand a modest season total of 182 rushing yards and zero touchdowns accumulated in four games.
Barkley has played fewer than 16 percent of offensive snaps in half of his appearances this year. He suffered a stinger in Week 2 against the Tennessee Titans and pulled his hamstring in Week 4 against the Los Angeles Rams. The 2024 Offensive Player of the Year has averaged 5.1 yards per rush on 36 carries, a figure that stands well above the 2.8 yard average of other Eagles running backs on 71 attempts.
The Eagles ran the ball just 12 times against the Carolina Panthers last week, gaining 35 yards and scoring one touchdown with Dameon Pierce. The team holds a four-game winning streak at home against the Cowboys, a mark tied for the second-longest in franchise history. They have won seven of their last eight primetime home games.
The Eagles face the Cowboys at Lincoln Financial Field on Monday night. The game concludes Week 7 of the NFL season. Barkley will be available for the starting lineup if the coaching staff elects to deploy him. The Eagles currently sit with a record that reflects their recent offensive inefficiency and key personnel losses.
